Brevard County Contractors’ License Proposed Change

Posted on Sep 17 in Member Blog

Good Afternoon Members,

Yesterday I attended the Brevard County Contractor’s Licensing Board Meeting. I was invited to attend the meeting to discuss a proposed change to allow Licensed Excavation Contractor’s to install Rip-Rap Seawalls. The Motion has been on the table for sometime now and was initiated due to a local Excavation Contractor advertising for Seawall Construction.

I was successful in providing information to the Board and validating the need for a properly licensed and experienced Marine Contractor to facilitate this type of work. The motion to amend the Excavation License was removed and the Excavation License will remain unchanged.

This was a huge success story for the Florida Marine Contractor’s working in Brevard County!! Please pass along the good news to the other non-members or the association in your area.

Please keep your association abreast of situations in your area, so that we may continue the work on behalf of the Professional Marine Contractor’s.

Coronavirus: Danger and Opportunity (Live Training)

Date: Thursday, 09 April 2020 | Time: 10:00 AM PST , 01:00 PM EST

Almost every manufacturing and service business is affected by the COVID-19 threat. No vaccination is currently available, and clinical trials may take roughly a year to deliver one. The countermeasures that are being taken to contain it should however reduce it to a still-dangerous but low-level nuisance by summer. This webinar will provide you a summary of OSHA’s recent guidelines for protecting workers, visitors, and other relevant interested parties from the virus. Also we will see even after social distancing is no longer necessary, whether these approaches are more cost-effective and therefore offer greater value to customers.

Key Learning Objectives:

• Know the health-related and economic dangers of COVID-19 including overt Chinese threats to cripple U.S. supply chains
• Gain an overview of OSHA’s (2020) “Guidance on Preparing Workplaces for COVID-19” which is available at https://www.osha.gov/Publications/OSHA3990.pdf along with other countermeasures such as social distancing, and an explanation of the difference between face masks and N95 respirators
• While nobody can predict the stock market, attendees will learn why investors may be selling due to panic rather than economic reality, noting that the virus is likely to be suppressed-along with the seasonal flu-by summer
