Christmas Business for Marine Contractors

Posted on Dec 24 in News

I always try to stay in town for the Christmas holidays as I believed that most marine contractors closed down for around a week and there were bid opportunities that they would miss. I would be here ready to quote the docks, decks, seawalls, pile driving, boardwalks and bridges for potential customers. Funny thing is, there are other contractors figuring the same thing and I end up with a lot of bidders. When there are a lot of bidders, the low bidder ends up being the one that forgot something from his bid. Most marine contractors bid on various items of work. We prefer commercial docks, decks, boardwalks, seawalls, sheet pile, concrete pile and such. However, as we are always looking for work, we also perform residential marine construction including docks, decks, seawalls and boathouses. The problem here in Orlando is unlicensed and uninsured contracting activity. When I bid on the style of dock that we build and include out $5,000,000 coverage on our general liability insurance, State Act Worker’s Compensation Insurance and Federal United States Longshore and Harborworker’s Act Insurance, we can’t compete. Thus our preference for the commercial work.
Merry Christmas to all my friends and fellow Marine Contractors! Visit our website at www.fendermarineconstruction.com.
